VE Day Celebrations

VE Day Celebrations at the NSC

On a very special evening, Newark Services Club was transformed into a time capsule as we honoured the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a heartfelt 1940s-themed celebration that brought the community together in style and spirit.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was electric with nostalgia. The Club was beautifully decorated thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff, who truly went above and beyond to capture the spirit of the 1940s. Special thanks also go to the Parachute Regiment Association (PRA) in helping with the organisation and setup—your support made all the difference.

🎶 Music was provided by Newark’s very own Catherine Proctor, whose stunning vocals and timeless 1940s hits filled the room and kept toes tapping all night long. Her performance was the perfect soundtrack to an evening of reflection, pride, and unity.

As the evening continued, guests were treated to classic Fish and Chips from Angells Fisheries, which went down an absolute treat—thank you for keeping the wartime menu authentic and delicious!

📽️ A truly touching moment came as we gathered to watch Winston Churchill’s famous VE Day speech, marking the end of the Second World War. Throughout the night, black and white footage from the 1940s played in the background, including a rare historical film about Newark made for American soldiers stationed in the UK. It was a powerful reminder of the town’s history and the important role it played during those years.

Every corner of the club was filled with smiles, laughter, and stories, as members and guests came together to commemorate one of the most important milestones in our nation’s history.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped create such a memorable evening. Here’s to remembering the past, honouring our heroes, and celebrating the enduring spirit of our community.

Lest we forget.
