BLACK TOT DAY – 28th July

28th of July in the small bar, 6 Bells (19.00) onwards, Up Spirits to the Tot, Everyone welcome. If anyone would like a challenge coin please let me know ASAP please.

If there is a call for it a game of Uckers maybe?

Black Tot Day (July 1970) was the last day on which the Royal Navy issued sailors with a daily rum ration.

While the rum ration was abolished, the order to “splice the mainbrace”, awarding sailors an extra tot of rum for good service, remained as a command which could only be given by the Monarch and is still used to recognise good service.

UCKERS

Uckers is a more interesting form of Ludo played in the Royal Navy (and apparently some non-British navies). Ludo is a children’s game based upon the ancient Indian game of Pachisi. There are other Western versions of Pachisi such as Parchís from Spain, Parcheesi from the USA.

Uckers is played by four people with the players opposite each other partnering to form 2 teams. It is essentially Ludo with extended rules that make it a more absorbing and skilful game. For the full rules click here.
